About Marie-Claude Laborde

Marie-Claude Laborde creates her works, paintings, pastels and drawings, at M Manor in Normandy, France.

She is the great-niece of the painter and illustrator, Chas Laborde, friend of Picasso, Foujita, Colette, Pierre Mac Orlan...

After studying art and philosophy at university, Marie-Claude specialised in linguistics which she taught. She then followed in the footsteps of her great uncle and worked with the painter Jean-Francois Conta. She went to Venice, where collectors became interested in her work. Eugenio Pozzobon played a role in this new adventure. She went on to show in Venice, Milan, Florence, Rome, Geneva...

Marie-Claude was noticed by the great art critic Paolo Rizzi who said of her in 1999: "We have already adopted her as one of us Venitians" (listen to his remarks). Her work recalls the festive sun-lit brilliance of Canaletto, but also the existential melancholy of Guardi. In her work, Turner's impalpable transparence and the blueish atmosphere of Monet meet Kokoshka's superb expressionism and Ruskin's neogothic lace.

Marie-Claude Laborde loves to travel. After having explored America and Italy, she discovered Japan and its cherry blossoms. She adores Kabuki theatre. She paints Japan as she paints Venice.
